Services

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a therapeutic process where a trained psychologist works 1:1 with a client to address their emotional, psychological, or behavioural issues. The focus is on providing a supportive and confidential environment where the client can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and work towards understanding and resolving any challenges that they may be facing with a sense of empowerment.

Our evidence-based therapies include:

1. Individual Counselling: Exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a safe environment to understand their influence on your life.

2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Recognise and challenge negative thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress, replacing them with effective coping strategies.

3. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Enhance your ability to accept challenging emotions and thoughts without allowing them to dictate your actions, committing instead to improving your mental well-being.

4. Schema Therapy: A therapeutic approach that integrates elements of CBT, attachment theory, and psychodynamic principles to treat deeply ingrained emotional patterns and schemas developed in childhood. It focuses on identifying and altering maladaptive schemas and modes through experiential techniques and therapeutic strategies aimed at promoting long-term emotional healing and change.

5. Mindfulness Training: Foster present-moment awareness to alleviate stress and improve emotional regulation.

Trauma Counselling

Trauma counselling is a specialised form of therapy focused on helping individuals who have experienced trauma cope with and recover from its effects. It typically involves creating a safe environment where clients can explore their feelings, thoughts, and reactions related to the trauma. The goal is to support clients in restoring a sense of safety, empowerment, and resilience.

Trauma counselling using Schema Therapy integrates techniques from Schema Therapy with approaches specifically tailored to address trauma-related issues.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a therapeutic approach primarily used with children to help them express their emotions, resolve psychological difficulties, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Here's a breakdown of what play therapy entails:

1. Safe and Supportive Environment: The therapist creates a safe and accepting environment where the child feels comfortable exploring and expressing their feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

2. Non-Directive or Directive: Play therapy can be non-directive, where the therapist allows the child to lead the play and explore their feelings at their own pace. Alternatively, it can be directive, with the therapist guiding the play towards specific therapeutic goals.

3. Expression and Resolution: Through play, children can act out their experiences, fears, and conflicts, often in ways that they may find difficult to articulate verbally. This helps them process and make sense of their emotions and experiences.

4. Developing Coping Skills: Play therapy aims to help children develop healthier coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills. They may learn to manage stress, express themselves more effectively, and improve their social skills through play interactions.

Play therapy is effective for a wide range of issues children may face, including trauma, anxiety, behavioural problems, grief, family disruptions, and developmental delays. It respects the child's natural means of communication and supports their emotional well-being through a therapeutic approach tailored to their developmental level and individual needs.
